Murder suspect arrested following pursuit in Platte County

Missouri Highway Patrol troopers arrested a Wayne County, Mo., murder suspect late Wednesday following a pursuit that ended in Platte County.

Michael D. Burkman faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action in Wayne County, which is in the Ozarks of southeastern Missouri.

Burkman also is accused of assault on law enforcement officers in Bollinger County, just east of Wayne County.

The incident that led to his arrest began just before 10 p.m. Wednesday when troopers spotted Burkman in a stolen vehicle traveling south on Interstate 29 in Andrew County. He refused to pull over for troopers, according to the highway patrol.

Burkman continued south on I-29 into Platte County, where he left the interstate and drove on county roads. Troopers arrested him after he crashed.

He is being held in the Platte County jail, authorities said.
