Wyandotte County political candidate accused of crashing into four teens
Wyandotte County District Attorney Jerome Gorman has charged Tamika Pledger with four counts of reckless aggravated battery after authorities said she drove the car that struck four teenagers near a Kansas City, Kan. community center Friday afternoon.
In a statement released Sunday, Gorman said Pledger, 38, remains in custody in the Wyandotte County jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
On Friday a sedan hit the teenagers on a hill near the 1300 block of Troup Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. Authorities say Pledger was the driver of the car.
All four teens were hurt in the accident, one critically. Their conditions were not available Sunday.
Pledger is a candidate for a seat on the Unified Government board in Kansas City, Kan., and Wyandotte County. It wasn’t known Sunday how the criminal charges would affect her campaign.
Pledger has been active in the Kansas City, Kan., community in recent weeks as it works through problems with violence and youths.
Gorman said the investigation into the crash continues.
