Overland Park child abduction report discounted

Overland Park police said Wednesday they no longer are investigating a reported child abduction attempt earlier this week. No crime occurred, they said.

Police did not say why they made that determination, but said they are no longer looking for a suspect or suspect vehicle.

A 9-year-old girl told police that she was playing in her driveway near 87th and Melrose streets around noon Monday when a man grabbed her leg. The girl said she pulled away and screamed, and suspect drove away.

A teenage relative of the girl reportedly was inside the house at the time. The girl’s parents were at work. She didn’t tell anyone about the alleged incident until about six hours later, after the parents returned home.

Police on Wednesday said they would not release any additional information.
