Shawnee police describe gunman from construction site confrontation
K-9 teams, police officers and a helicopter searched a Shawnee neighborhood early Saturday for an intruder who shot a man at a house under construction.
Police responded to a call for help shortly after midnight. The caller said he thought he had been shot.
When officers arrived in the 5200 block of Meadow View Drive, they found the victim, a 59-year-old Leawood man, and briefly interviewed him at a hospital.
The man said he had been conducting surveillance at some houses under construction after recent thefts of building materials. He said he watched a man break into one of the houses and confronted him. They fought. The victim suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening and was released from the hospital on Saturday.
Police described the gunman as a thin, white man in his 30s, about 6 feet tall with “scraggly-looking” blond hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. He was driving a white, mid-1980s, half-ton Chevrolet pickup truck.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Shawnee Police Department at 913-631-2150 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
