Black Labrador stolen with truck from Brookside street

Stolen: one black Labrador.

Early Sunday evening, Jon Nee was celebrating his fiancee’s birthday party. He was in charge of picking up dinner.

He went to his pickup truck, started it and then stepped out, waiting for his fiancee’s sister to step in on the passenger side.

Then he saw a Dodge Ram pickup truck headed toward him at high speed down a narrow residential Brookside street.

“I had to get out of the way or the truck would have run me over,” Nee said.

So Nee got out of the way. The truck, however, slowed just long enough for someone to jump out, jump behind the wheel of Nee’s truck and drive off. In the rear of the Nee’s pickup, in her dog box enclosure, was Mack. That’s Nee’s approximately 50-pound black Labrador.

Nee believes the thieves had been watching him.

“I have never seen anything stolen more precisely, not even in the movies,” he said.

But Nee doesn’t think the thieves knew about Mack. The dog box might have looked like a large truckbed toolbox to non-dog owners, he said.

Nee has filed a police report. Officers are looking for Nee’s black 2004 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup truck, with Kansas plate 016-CZN, as well as for the dark blue, four-door Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Nee is offering a $500 reward for Mack’s safe return. Anyone recognizing Mack can call Nee at 913-579-0173.

“I am optimistic that we are going to get her back,” Nee said.
