Argument over drugs led to Kansas City shooting death, prosecutors allege
A 35-year-old man faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly killing a man during a fight over drugs, Jackson County prosecutors said.
Brad J. Lindsey of Kansas City also is accused of unlawful use of a weapon and multiple counts of evidence tampering in the slaying of D’Adrian Lamar Bell, 26, on May 15 in a home in the 7200 block of Olive Street.
According to court records, a witness told investigators that Bell was trying to buy marijuana from Lindsey and argued about the price. A fight ensued. The witness got between the men to separate them. Lindsey pulled out a handgun and fired two shots, striking Bell.
Investigators later contacted Lindsey, who told them Bell had tried to hit him but he dodged the punch and fell. He got up and punched Bell three times. Bell pushed Lindsey to the floor. After Lindsey stood, he pulled a handgun from his pants pocket and began firing.
He took Bell’s cellphone, which he later threw away somewhere on Bruce R. Watkins Drive. He threw his handgun and clothes he had been wearing into the Missouri River from the Broadway Bridge.
