No charges against Overland Park police officer in shooting

No criminal action will be taken against an Overland Park police officer involved in a shooting earlier this month.

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe announced Friday that his office had completed a review of an officer-involved shooting July 3. The officer’s use of force was justified under Kansas law, Howe announced in a written statement.

“Therefore, no criminal action will be taken against that officer,’ the statement read.

Overland Park officers responded to an apartment complex in the 5600 block of Marty Street, near Metcalf Avenue, to check on the welfare of a resident. At some point, shots were fired and the resident was wounded.

The man was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The Johnson County multijurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team investigated the incident.
