Cass County authorities identify man killed in struggle with deputy
Cass County authorities have identified a 57-year-old man fatally shot in a struggle with a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday night as Leslie Wayne Goletz of Englewood, Colo.
The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. on Interstate 49 in Peculiar. Goletz died at the scene.
Authorities said the deputy followed Goletz, who reportedly was driving erratically. An officer with the Peculiar Police Department managed to disable the vehicle with a deflation device north of Missouri J.
After exiting his vehicle, Goletz moved toward the deputy, who fired his stun gun at him, the sheriff’s office said. But Goletz continued to resist and gained control of the deputy’s stun gun.
The deputy shot Goletz, striking him several times, according to the sheriff’s office.
