Argument between Northland couple leads to shooting

A Kansas City, North, husband and wife were hospitalized early Wednesday after the wife, who is seven weeks pregnant, shot her husband.

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. in an apartment in the 7800 block of Northwest Roanridge Road. The couple argued moments before the shooting, according to a police report.

During the argument, the 26-year-old man grabbed the woman, also 26, by the neck and began to choke her. He threatened to kill her and her family. She broke free and rushed to a bedroom to retrieve a handgun from beneath a bed. She then told her husband to leave.

After he threw a cellphone at her, she shot him. The bullet struck under his left arm and exited his chest.

Both were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
