Federal employee in KC sentenced for stealing from co-workers

A former federal government employee who schemed to steal from a blind co-worker and two others, was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison.

Paula M. Steen, 50, of Overland Park, was also ordered to pay nearly $100,000 in restitution, according to federal prosecutors in Kansas City.

Steen, who was an IT specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Kansas City, pleaded guilty last December to engaging in fraud and identity theft schemes that cost three of her co-workers about $103,000 over a four-year period.
