Man kidnapped in Kansas City escapes in St. Louis County

A 67-year-old man was kidnapped at gunpoint in south Kansas City early Thursday and forced to withdraw money from different banks before he was able to escape in St. Louis County on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The man, who was not identified, said he was kidnapped by two men about 5:30 a.m. He was able to escape them about 1 p.m. The abductors reportedly still have the man’s van, described as an orange/red 1998 Chevrolet 1500 with Missouri plates SF6U0W.

One abductor was described as black, about 20, wearing a blue or gray baseball cap. The other was described as black, 25-30, with a dark blue shirt, jeans and a ski mask.

Kansas City police searched the area around the victim’s house in the 12200 block of Prospect Avenue for hours Thursday after his wife reported him missing. Kansas City detectives went to St. Louis County to interview the victim and bring him home.
