Another lawsuit alleges sexual impropriety at VA Medical Center in Leavenworth

Another lawsuit — the seventh this year — has been filed alleging sexual misconduct by a former employee at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leavenworth.

Mark E. Wisner, a former physician assistant, also is being prosecuted on criminal charges in Leavenworth County.

A veteran who suffered a disabling back injury while serving in Iraq filed the latest suit Monday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan.

Like other men who have filed suit, he said Wisner subjected him to unnecessary genital and prostate examinations. Wisner allegedly required the examinations for patients to have prescriptions refilled, according to the suit.

The lawsuit accuses the U.S. government of failing to adequately supervise Wisner and of being vicariously responsible for his alleged actions.

Previously filed suits make similar allegations.

After officials began an investigation into allegations involving Wisner, he resigned. Early last year, he surrendered his license to state medical officials.

He does not have an attorney in the civil suits but has filed answers to some of the suits, saying he denies the “factorial allegations.”

Wisner asked that the civil proceedings be stayed until the criminal case is resolved.

His next court appearance on the criminal case is scheduled for Friday. A trial date could be set at that time.
