Olathe man now faces murder charge in vehicular accident

A 42-year-old man charged in the vehicular death of another motorist now faces an amended charge, Johnson County authorities announced Wednesday.

Jeremy Claerhout of Olathe is charged with reckless second-degree murder, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and reckless driving in connection with the accident that killed Christopher Willdermood, 32, of Olathe.

The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. Jan. 11 in the 1300 block of Southview Ridgeview Road in Olathe. According to police, a pickup truck driven by Claerhout struck Willdermood’s car from behind.

Claerhout and his two passengers were not injured. Willdermood was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died.

Claerhout remains in custody in lieu of a $250,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday. The accident remains under investigation.
