Overland Park couple are accused of fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship

An Overland Park married couple have been charged with bank fraud and fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship.

Federal prosecutors said Ajay Dave, 60, and Parul Dave, 59, who are originally from India, have been arrested.

They are charged with two counts of bank fraud, two counts of making false statements on their applications to become U.S. citizens and four counts that involved obtaining U.S. citizenship by fraud.

Court documents allege that the Daves provided false financial information and tax returns to an Overland Park bank to obtain a $417,000 mortgage loan on their Overland Park residence. They also allegedly provided false information to obtain a $238,500 loan to refinance another home in Topeka.

The Daves, who came to the United States in 1999, failed to reveal the alleged bank fraud while applying to become naturalized U.S. citizens in 2012 and 2013, prosecutors allege.
