Teen is charged in ‘upskirt’ photo incidents at high school

A Shawnee teenager has been charged with taking “upskirt” photos of numerous girls at Mill Valley High School in the De Soto School District.

Johnson County prosecutors on Tuesday charged 17-year-old Ethan Ahrenholtz with 11 felony counts of breach of privacy. He was charged in the juvenile division of Johnson County District Court.

Ahrenholtz was a student at the school when the alleged incidents occurred between Feb. 5 and May 2, according to court documents.

Nine victims, all under the age of 18, are identified by initials in court documents.

The charges say he used some type of camera or recording device to film “under or through” their clothing without their consent.

Court records do not list an attorney for Ahrenholtz.

The school’s principal sent a letter to families earlier this month describing how a student had been attempting to use a cellphone to take photographs of other students in public areas of the school. The school immediately notified Shawnee police.
