A Shawnee man was ordered Tuesday to stand trial for allegedly causing an Overland Park crash in November that killed a 17-month-old girl.

Boyd Chism, 40, waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday in Johnson County District Court.

Chism is charged with involuntary manslaughter or, as an alternative count, reckless second-degree murder in the death of Addilynn Poole.

The girl’s 20-year-old mother was driving the car with the girl and her mother’s 8-year-old stepbrother as passengers when it crashed with a car allegedly driven by Chism at 175th Street and Pflumm Road.

Police said Chism was fleeing after a Johnson County sheriff’s deputy had tried to pull him over for speeding.

Chism also is charged with speeding, reckless driving and three counts of aggravated battery for injuries suffered by Addilynn’s mother, her mother’s stepbrother and another person.

After Chism waived his preliminary hearing, a judge bound him over for trial.

Chism pleaded not guilty to the charges. His next court appearance is set for July 27. He remains jailed, with bond set at $500,000.
