Woman is robbed and assaulted at gunpoint

A woman told Kansas City police she was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint early Friday while walking near 45th Street and Washington Avenue.

The incident happened just after midnight. The victim said several people approached her from behind. One brandished a handgun and stole several items before striking her on the right side of the head, causing it to swell.

The robbers fled in an unknown direction.

Police did not have a detailed description of the assailants.
