Prosecutors charge man with kidnapping and striking woman

Jackson County authorities on Wednesday charged a 40-year-old man with kidnapping a woman, striking her and fleeing from police.

Michael A. Porter of Nevada, Mo., also faces domestic assault charges in the incident that happened May 6. Prosecutors allege Porter led police on a vehicle pursuit that reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

A woman told police she was with Porter earlier that day. The two had been together because Porter was an artist and he was going to give her a tattoo. The two later went to a friend’s house in Kansas City.

At some point, Porter turned violent toward the woman, striking her in the mouth. The woman later jumped from the moving vehicle, hitting her head several times on the pavement. Porter picked the woman off the ground and put her back into the vehicle.

The woman said Porter repeatedly told her that he was going to kill her.
