12-year-old boy on bicycle badly hurt in traffic collision in KC

A 12-year-old boy was critically injured early Saturday when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle on Bruce R. Watkins Drive.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection with 55th Street, according to Kansas City police.

Witnesses told officers that the driver of the vehicle had a green light when the collision occurred. Police said the driver stayed on the scene and did not show any signs of being impaired.

The boy was taken to a hospital and his injuries were considered life-threatening.
