Passenger ejected, run over by second vehicle on Interstate 435

A woman suffered serious injuries early Saturday when she was thrown from a vehicle during a highway wreck in Kansas City and a second vehicle then ran over her.

The incident happened about 1 a.m. on Interstate 435 at Truman Road. The woman was a passenger in a northbound SUV that left the interstate when the driver lost control. The SUV struck a guardrail, veered back onto the interstate and struck a barrier cable. The woman was ejected. The driver jumped out and ran, police said.

A man driving a second northbound vehicle did not see the woman lying in the roadway soon enough to avoid hitting her.

The woman was listed in serious condition at a hospital.
