Independence police arrested two people and recovered a stolen handgun after a brief Friday morning car chase.
Police were called just before 6:30 a.m. Friday to the area of 31st Street and Hidden Valley Road on reports that someone had fired shots from a vehicle.
When officers spotted a car matching the description of a suspect vehicle they tried to stop it, but the driver refused to stop.
Police pursued the car north on Missouri 291. At one point, a passenger jumped out and was arrested.

Officers used stop sticks to puncture the car’s tires.
When the vehicle stopped on Hidden Valley, just east of Missouri 291, the driver fled on foot but was run down and arrested by officers.
A shell casing and .40-caliber handgun were found in the car, and police determined that the gun had been reported stolen.
No one was injured during the incident.
