Escapee from Crawford County, Kan., jail is captured in Olathe
Olathe police on Monday morning arrested the second of two men who escaped more than a week ago from the Crawford County, Kan., jail in Girard.
Police arrested Shawn Steven Simpson while he was walking in an Olathe neighborhood, according to a release from Crawford County Sheriff Dan Peak. The vehicle used in the escape was also found at an Olathe apartment.
Simpson and Steven Ray Barnes escaped from the jail’s outdoor recreation area April 23. Crawford County sheriff’s deputies and the U.S. Marshals Service Kansas Fugitive Apprehension Task Force on Saturday tracked Barnes to a Pittsburg, Kan., hotel room.
Barnes barricaded himself in the room, but officers were able to enter and arrest him.
