Life sentence is ordered in Lawrence homicide

A Lawrence man was sentenced Friday to life in prison in the 2014 home invasion killing of another man.

Dustin D. Walker, 31, will have to serve 20 years in prison before he is eligible for parole, according to the Douglas County district attorney’s office. The life sentence was ordered to run consecutively with a sentence of 10 years and 10 months in prison for aggravated burglary.

A Douglas County jury in March found Walker guilty of first-degree felony murder in the March 2014 killing of Patrick D. Roberts.

Roberts was fatally shot inside an apartment in the 2400 block of Cedarwood Avenue in Lawrence after two men broke in and demanded, “Where is it?”

After Roberts was shot, his brother wrestled the gun from one of the intruders, who fled. Police arrested two suspects a short time later.

Co-defendant Archie L. Robinson previously was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 20 years.
