Overland Park police investigate vehicle break-ins at hotels

Overland Park police are investigating a rash of vehicle break-ins in hotel parking lots over the weekend.

Police said someone broke into 20 to 25 Friday night at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel at the Convention Center, 6100 College Blvd., and at the nearby Courtyard Kansas City/Overland Park-Convention Center, 11001 Woodson St.

The Sheraton was the site Friday and Saturday of the Flint Hills Regional Leaders Retreat attended by about 250 local government, community and business leaders in the Flint Hills region.

Police said vehicles parked at hotels near Interstate 435 and Metcalf are increasingly becoming targets of thieves. The best way to avoid being a victim, they said: Don’t leave bags, briefcases, cellphones or any other valuables in plain view.
