A 21-year-old man allegedly called 911 and said he had committed a murder before stabbing his 46-year-old father multiple times at their Raytown home.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Kevon M. Jones with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action for allegedly assaulting his father Monday night.

According to court documents, Raytown police dispatchers received a 911 call about 8:10 p.m. from a person who, when asked if he had an emergency, allegedly responded, “I just committed a murder.”

When officers responded to the scene in the 8600 block of East 83rd Street, they found Jones pinned on the front porch by his father, who had stab wounds and lacerations to the head, neck, back, arm and chest.

A witness told police that he heard Jones’ father cry for help. The witness said that when he got to his neighbor’s house, he found the victim lying on top of his son, pinning both of his son’s arms above his head against the porch.

Jones still had a large blue-handled kitchen knife in his hand and was trying to cut his father. The witness said he helped take the knife from Jones’ hand and secured it until police arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was bleeding heavily. A portion of a knife blade was lodged in his back, and he had a punctured lung.

When police questioned Jones, he allegedly said he stabbed his father for no specific reason. Jones said he was mad at the world and had tried to commit suicide in the past. Jones allegedly said there was “no right or wrong,” so he didn’t think what he had done was wrong.

Jones said he decided to stab his father, so he called 911 to report it beforehand. He said he allegedly stabbed his father possibly 50 times and he “went savage on him.”
