1-year-old girl is dead in east Kansas City shooting
A 1-year-old girl died Thursday after being injured in a shooting in east Kansas City, police said.
Police called to a house in the 2600 block of Lawn Avenue about 1:30 p.m. found the girl injured at the home.
An ambulance took her to Children’s Mercy Hospital, where she was declared dead, police said.
Police said they were investigating the shooting. The only people present at the home when officers arrived were a man believed to be the girl’s father and a 3-year-old boy.
Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forté announced Thursday night that police had executed a search warrant at the home, where “evidence of value” was recovered. Police questioned a family member.
