Federal prosecutors add 11 charges against KCK man in kidnapping case
Federal prosecutors announced 11 more charges Wednesday against a Kansas City, Kan., man accused in the kidnapping of three women in Kansas City on April 9.
Jamerl M. Wortham, 30, had already been charged with carjacking, kidnapping and using an illegal sawed-off shotgun. Prosecutors accused him of being one of three men who kidnapped three women, robbed them and forced them to use drugs, according to court documents. One victim reported being sexually assaulted.
Wortham is so far the only suspect charged in the case. When questioned by police, Wortham said he only met the two other kidnappers that night and only knew their first names.
On Wednesday, federal prosecutors announced that a new 15-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury added 11 charges against Wortham, including additional counts of kidnapping and firearms violations corresponding to each of the three victims.
