Lenexa man accused of sexually assaulting man with developmental delays
A 54-year-old Lenexa man has been charged with sexually assaulting a developmentally delayed man.
Rodney Eugene Sexton, who previously was convicted of sex crimes involving a student at the Kansas School for the Deaf, is charged in Johnson County District Court with one count of sexual battery.
Sexton was booked into the Johnson County Jail on Monday on the misdemeanor charge. His bond was set at $10,000.
According to court documents, the new charge involves an incident that prosecutors say happened in December in Shawnee.
Prosecutors initially filed the case in December but dismissed it. That felony charge accused Sexton of aggravated sexual battery involving an adult “incapable of giving consent because of mental deficiency or disease.”
The new charge alleges only that Sexton touched the victim without the man’s consent.
In the 1980s, while working at the school for the deaf in Olathe, Sexton was prosecuted for sex crimes involving a student. He was convicted of indecent liberties with a child and aggravated sodomy, according to court records.
