Raytown woman charged with hit-and-run that left child injured in December

A 21-year-old Raytown woman faces three felony charges after Jackson County prosecutors accused her of hitting a child with her car while passing a school bus in December.

Aminah Z. Ali has been charged with assault, failing to stop for a school bus, and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the Dec. 21 incident near 84th Terrace and Hillcrest Road, prosecutors announced Wednesday. The incident left the child with a broken collarbone.

According to court records, a white Chevrolet Malibu had stopped in a line of vehicles behind a school bus that had its stop bar and flashing lights activated while dropping off children about three blocks from Raytown South Middle School. Witnesses told police they saw the Malibu jump the line and strike a student, knocking him into some bushes.

The student’s father witnessed the incident and made eye contact with the driver, who fled the scene, according to court records.

Another witness took down the license plate of the Malibu.

Ali was arrested on Tuesday.

Prosecutors have requested a $25,000 bond.
