After killing of teen, Kansas City park will get surveillance cameras
A new surveillance camera system is being installed in a central Kansas City park where a teenager was shot and killed last year.
Officials will dedicate the cameras at Seven Oaks Park at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Someone fatally shot Asaan Williams in March 2015 at the park at 37th Street and Kensington Avenue. His killer has not been caught.
His family petitioned for the funds that were used to pay for the camera system, according to a news release from the AdHoc Group Against Crime.
Members of the Williams family will join Councilman Jermaine Reed and representations from AdHoc and the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department at Wednesday’s ceremony, which is being held during National Crime Victims Week.
Police still are investigating the killing of Asaan Williams. They ask anyone with information about it to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.
