A man and a woman face federal charges after allegedly firing numerous shots at police during a mid-Missouri car chase Thursday.

Russell D. Moore Jr. and Victoria Ann Buol also fired shots at tractor-trailers on Interstate 70 in an effort to cause a wreck and stop pursuing police cars, federal prosecutors said.

Prosecutors charged Moore, 25, of Fulton, in U.S. District Court with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

They charged Buol, 24, of Boonville, with possession of a stolen firearm.

According to documents filed in federal court, a Columbia woman called police Wednesday to report that her Jeep and several firearms had been stolen.

Early Thursday, a Boone County deputy spotted the Jeep and began pursuing it. Moore allegedly fired numerous shots. At one point, the Jeep stopped, and Moore got out and fired more shots at the deputy, according to the allegations.

Gunfire disabled the deputy’s car, but other officers continued the pursuit east on I-70 into Callaway County. Shots continued to be fired at officers as well as at several trucks. One bullet nearly hit a trucker, according to the court documents.

The pair surrendered after the vehicle ran out of gas.

They both later told officers that they shot at the trucks in an effort to cause a wreck and block police, the court records said.
