Grandview man is sentenced for killing father during fight over basement water leak
A 44-year-old Grandview man was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison for causing his father’s death last year during an altercation over a water leak in the basement of their home.
Kyle J. Webb pleaded guilty Feb. 5 to voluntary manslaughter. He had originally been charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of his father, 74-year-old Franklin Webb.
According to court documents, Webb told police that the July 2015 incident began when he was cleaning up a leak in the basement. Webb said his father started getting angry about the way he was cleaning. Webb went into a rage and confronted his father upstairs.
The argument turned physical, and in the ensuing struggle Webb held his father down on the floor until the older man lost consciousness and began to twitch.
Webb panicked and paced a couple of minutes before calling 911.
Webb later told investigators he wrestled in college for a year and has a brown belt in judo.
