KC Symphony musician faces child pornography charges

A Kansas City Symphony musician was indicted Wednesday on federal charges of possessing and attempting to receive child pornography.

Gary A. Schutza Jr., the symphony’s principal trumpeter, was placed on administrative leave earlier this year after he was charged in Johnson County District Court with possession of child pornography.

The Johnson County charge alleges that Schutza, of Prairie Village, possessed child pornography in 2012. That case is pending, according to court records.

The federal charges allege that he attempted to obtain child pornography online in January 2013 and possessed child pornography in August 2013.
