Teenager is charged with shooting another teen in Olathe

An Olathe teenager was charged Friday with robbing and shooting another teenager Thursday.

Michael Wright, 17, was charged in the juvenile division of Johnson County District Court with aggravated battery and aggravated robbery.

The 18-year-old victim remained hospitalized Friday with a gunshot wound to the torso. A condition update was not available.

Johnson County prosecutors also filed notice Friday that they will seek to have Wright tried as an adult.

Court documents allege that Wright robbed the victim of a backpack, but the documents do not state what it contained.

The shooting occurred in the area of Lone Elm Road and College Boulevard, near Olathe Northwest High School. Neither teen is currently a student at the school, according to school district officials.

Police arrested Wright at his home nearby in the 21000 block of West 112th Terrace.

He appeared before a judge Friday afternoon and was ordered held in juvenile detention pending his next court appearance on Jan. 27.
