Quick-change scam hits Olathe businesses
A couple of “short change” scammers have victimized a half-dozen businesses in Olathe, police said Tuesday.
The scammers use different methods to confuse store clerks while engaging in a transaction with a $100 bill. In some cases, they ask to break the bill or they use it to make a small purchase.
Olathe police said there were 10 such attempts over two days in June and in six the criminals left with the $100 bill and additional change.
Police released surveillance photos of the two men and asked anyone with information to call the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6950 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
