Man is arrested after nighttime assault in Kansas City

Police responding to a disturbance call Wednesday night in the 4500 block of Independence Avenue found a man who had been severely beaten.

The attack was reported about 9:30 p.m. Officers found the victim sprawled on the pavement with several head wounds.

The victim told police he was walking down the street when another man approached him. The two argued.

The attacker pulled out an object, struck the victim several times on the head and body, then ran away.

Officers noticed a man matching the description of the attacker at a nearby bus stop and arrested him.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he is listed in critical condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
