KCK man is charged in counterfeit gold case
An investigation into counterfeit gold bars being sold on Craigslist has led to criminal charges against a Kansas City, Kan., man.
Jeremy Michael Kimmel, 29, was charged Wednesday in Johnson County District Court with felony theft and using a computer to commit fraud.
According to court documents, the victim of a $2,500 felony theft Monday was an undercover Mission police officer.
Prosecutors advise anyone who purchased gold bars on Craigslist to take them to a reputable dealer to determine if they are genuine.
If someone has purchased a counterfeit item, they are asked to call Mission police at 913-676-8300 or police in their city.
Kimmel was arrested Monday. His bond is $10,000. If he posts bond, he will not be allowed to use a computer or phone with Internet access.
