Angry bus rider allegedly kicks, damages KCATA supervisor’s car

Police are looking for a bus rider who allegedly retaliated for being removed from a bus by damaging a Kansas City Area Transportation Authority supervisor’s car.

The rider allegedly kicked the supervisor’s car, causing $2,300 in damages. Police are trying to identify the man.

The man was a passenger on the bus when it stopped and was delayed at a construction zone about 4:45 p.m. on March 10. He became angry because he was headed into work. The man allegedly threatened the bus driver and and cursed at him.

After the bus cleared the construction zone, the man continued to argue with the driver and then fellow passengers. The driver called dispatch for a supervisor and was told to pull over near Eastwood Trafficway and Ararat Drive. Police were called too.

The supervisor removed the man from the bus and once off, the man retaliated by kicking the supervisor’s car. The man fled before police arrived.

The Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers released a surveillance photo of the man, asking anyone who knows his identity to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 (TIPS).

The KCATA released a surveillance video of the encounter involving the supervisor and the passenger in the hope it would help lead to the man’s arrest.

Anyone providing information leading to the man’s arrest could be eligible for up to $2,000 in reward.

The incident comes at a time the transit agency is working with Kansas City police to step up security aboard its buses.
