Carnival worker is accused in Overland Park rape
A traveling carnival worker arrested last year in Alabama has been returned to Johnson County, where he is charged with raping a woman in Overland Park.
Brandon Mounce, a registered sex offender because of a previous sexual assault conviction in Texas, was tracked down last year by the U.S. Marshals Service after Johnson County prosecutors charged him with the 2005 rape.
Mounce, 38, was linked to the Overland Park crime by DNA testing, according to officials. Evidence preserved from the 2005 Overland Park case matched a DNA sample taken from Mounce after he was convicted of sexually assaulting another woman in Texas in 2009.
After his release from a Texas prison, he moved to Hutchinson, Kan. But last year when authorities went to arrest him in the Johnson County case, they discovered that he had left the area and was traveling as a carnival worker.
The marshals service eventually tracked him to Decatur, Ala., where he was arrested in September.
Mounce was booked Tuesday into the Johnson County jail, where he is being held on a bond of $100,000. His first appearance in Johnson County District Court is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
