Olathe man pleads guilty in crash that killed part-time police officer
A 25-year-old Olathe man pleaded guilty Monday to causing an Overland Park traffic crash that killed a Louisburg, Kan., police officer.
Dana Patton pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to a charge of reckless second-degree murder in the death last October of David M. Stubbs.
Stubbs, 58, a part-time officer in Louisburg, was killed in a collision at the intersection of 123rd Street and Metcalf Avenue when a car driven by Patton ran a red light.
Patton, who waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday, also pleaded guilty to six counts of aggravated battery for injuries suffered by others involved in the crash.
He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop at an injury accident, obstructing the legal process and aggravated burglary.
Patton ran away from the scene of the crash and was arrested after breaking into a nearby apartment.
His sentencing is scheduled for May 26.
