Kansas City police are investigating after a man was shot and killed about 2 p.m. Monday near 18th Street and Topping Avenue. A man who witnesses said had fled the scene was arrested soon after, but police have not said whether he is connected to the shooting.

Kansas City police are investigating a Monday afternoon homicide of a man in his 20s.

The man was shot about 2 p.m. near 18th Street and Topping Avenue.

Officers found the victim in the grass. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses said that after the shooting, a man with his hair in braids and wearing a white T-shirt ran from the area. Soon after, officers arrested a man matching that description. Police have not said whether the man is connected to the shooting.

The victim’s name has not been released.

There also were reports of suspects fleeing in a vehicle. A similar vehicle was involved in a street robbery a few minutes later, and officers are investigating whether the incidents were connected.
