Trial ordered in killing of Overland Park teen during attempted robbery

A Kansas City, Kan., teen has been ordered to stand trial in the killing of another teen during an attempted robbery last summer in Overland Park.

Marquise Stokes, 19, is charged with first-degree felony murder in the June 2015 shooting death of 18-year-old Velik Henderson.

Stokes is also charged with aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated robbery.

Henderson was killed inside his home in the 7800 block of West 61st Terrace.

Another young man, 19-year-old Trevon Anderson, was also fatally shot during the incident, but Stokes is charged only in the killing of Henderson.

After hearing preliminary evidence Thursday, a Johnson County district judge found probable cause to try Stokes on the charges.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 29.
