Raytown homeowner fires gun after confronting armed intruder

A Raytown homeowner fired a gun to try to scare away an armed intruder he confronted Thursday morning.

The homeowner encountered the intruder after arriving home about 10 a.m. in the 8300 block of Pershing Road. The homeowner knew the intruder. Both were armed, police said.

The resident fired a shot to scare away the intruder, who fled in an unknown direction.

Police alerted Raytown school officials as a precaution because a high school is a few blocks from where the shooting occurred.

The resident is cooperating with police investigators.
