A dog named “Mister” died last week during an armed carjacking that caused hours of mayhem in Kansas City, and police are looking for anyone with information.

At 2:45 a.m. on June 22, a man hanging out at a convenience store in the 3800 block of Broadway jumped into the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in front of the store, police said. The driver was nearby, police said.

The man pointed a black handgun at a front-seat passenger, who got out of the vehicle. The man then sped away with Mister in the back seat.

Soon after that, police were called to a multi-car accident on Interstate 35 near West Pennway. Officers determined the suspect in the stolen vehicle had been speeding northbound on I-35 and struck other vehicles, causing the four-car accident.

The dog was found dead in the vehicle. Police said it was unclear whether Mister’s death was the result of the accident. A shell casing and spent bullet were found inside the vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene and is at large. He was described as tall with long dreadlocks and between 25 and 40 years old.

Call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 with information, police said.
