KC woman gets prison in $400,000 income tax fraud

A Kansas City woman has been sentenced to a year in federal prison for her role in a $400,000 income tax fraud scheme.

Lashan Brown, 41, was ordered to pay restitution of $120,000 as part of her sentencing Thursday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

Federal prosecutors said that in 2010 and 2011, Brown used her home computer to file 33 fraudulent federal income tax returns, resulting in a loss to the government of $120,172.

Three co-defendants have also pleaded guilty in the case.
