Roberto Alatorre-Munoz of Kansas City is accused of slashing his wife’s throat and stabbing her Wednesday. She was in serious condition after the attack.

A 31-year-old Kansas City man was charged Thursday with stabbing his wife and cutting her throat while six children were in the house.

Police said the woman was reported in serious condition at a hospital after the 4:30 p.m. Wednesday attack in the 300 block of North Brighton Avenue.

Roberto Alatorre-Munoz was arrested later by Kansas City, Kan., police, and on Thursday, Jackson County prosecutors charged him with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.

Arriving officers found the victim inside a home with a “large cut across her throat,” according to a police report. Police said she also suffered stab wounds to the neck, back, abdomen and chest.

She also had cuts on her hands from efforts to defend herself.

She reportedly told police that she was getting ready for work when Alatorre-Munoz walked up behind her and was stroking her hair when he grabbed her and cut her neck.

She was stabbed while trying to get away, and one of the children saw her covered with blood and called 911, according to court documents.

The woman told police that Alatorre-Munoz had previously told her that if he killed her, he “would do it careful” and “would do it and she would not know what happened.”

A few days before the attack, she said he punched her in the eye and held a knife to her throat. She did not call police after that incident.
