An 18-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting Thursday afternoon and another teen was taken into custody several hours later, Olathe police said.

The shooting was reported around 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Lone Elm Road and College Boulevard, near Olathe Northwest High School, but police said they did not think the incident had anything to do with the school.

A police spokesman said officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the torso in the 12300 block of South Parker Terrace. The victim had gone to that location after the shooting, which police said occurred closer to Lone Elm and College.

The victim was in critical condition and was taken into surgery but was expected to survive, police said.

The person arrested is 17 and was taken into custody near the scene of the shooting, police said.

Students at Olathe Northwest and several other schools in the area were kept inside as a precaution during the search for the suspect.
