Two teens face juvenile criminal charges in Grandview shooting
Jackson County juvenile authorities have charged two teens in connection with the Monday night shooting death of a 41-year-old Grandview man who reportedly tried to persuade them to hand over a handgun.
A 14-year-old boy was charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of Gregory Moody in the 6300 block of East 127th Street in Grandview.
The teen also was charged with first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. A 13-year-old boy faces four counts of second-degree assault. Because the two are juveniles, their names are being withheld.
Both teens are being held in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center pending their first appearance in Family Court.
Sabrina Moody said her husband was trying to defuse an altercation that had occurred days earlier between two groups of teens and had resurfaced Monday. She said one group supposedly fired several gunshots at a residence.
Gregory Moody later urged a youth to give up the weapon. Instead, the youth shot him, Sabrina Moody said.
