Candlelight vigils are planned Thursday evening for two recent victims of homicide — Alexis Shonae Kane, 14, of Kansas City, and Jon Bieker, 44, of Gardner.

The prayer vigil for Alexis, whose body was found Sunday afternoon behind The Bay Water Park, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the water park, 7101 Longview Road.

Alexis was an eighth-grader at Smith-Hale Middle School. The AdHoc Group Against Crime Kansas City said on its Facebook page that she was shot to death.

AdHoc is offering up to $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest of those involved in her death.

People are urged to call the AdHoc’s hotline at 816-753-1111. The public is asked to bring candles to the vigil.

Meanwhile a candlelight vigil for Bieker will start at 7 p.m. Thursday beginning at the parking lot of She’s a Pistol, 5725 Nieman Road in Shawnee.

Bieker died Friday after a robbery attempt at the Shawnee gun store he co-owned with his wife, Becky.

Four men have been charged in his death.

The Shawnee Downtown Business Association and the Shawnee Downtown Partnership will host the vigil.

Those at the vigil will walk from the gun store to downtown Shawnee where people can sign a banner and share their condolences with the Bieker family.
