Retired Missouri teacher admits to seeking sex with minor

A retired Missouri teacher who placed an online ad seeking sex with minors pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court.

Paul Robert Cannon, 71, of Sedalia, admitted that in January he advertised on Craigslist for a couple who “would like to include their kids in sexual fun.” He described himself as a grandpa and retired teacher.

A Boone County sheriff’s deputy responded to the ad, posing as the mother of a 14-year-old daughter, according to federal prosecutors.

In subsequent email exchanges, Cannon described sexual acts that he wanted to engage in with the girl.

He was arrested after going to a restaurant in Columbia to meet with the woman and child.

A sentencing date has not been set. The charge of attempting to induce a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity carries a sentence of 10 years to life in prison.
